MULTICULTURAL HOUSING ADVOCACY
A program of the Multicultural Services Centre of WA.
The Multicultural Housing Advocacy (MHA) Objectives are:
The MHA program has been established to help migrant families and individuals to:
- Maintain their tenancies.
- Develop links to community resources and other services.
- Increase their knowledge and skills to maintain stable accommodation.
- Increase their knowledge and understanding of services available to migrants.
The MHA program also seeks to support and educate service providers and the real estate industry to increase their knowledge of the particular issues for migrants and the services available to assist them.
The MHA target group.
The MHA program provides Advocacy and Support Services for:
- Migrant families and individuals in private accommodation who are identified as being at risk of eviction or who have difficulty maintaining their tenancy.
- Migrant families and individuals who have been homeless and require ongoing support to maintain their new accommodation and avoid further episodes of homelessness.
Some of the services we provide:
- Filling out rental applications.
- Help with Bond Assistance.
- Help with understanding and negotiating lease agreements.
- Help with property maintenance, packing and moving.
- Assistance in preparing for house inspections.
- Advocacy and negotiating with landlords and/ or agents.
- Counselling and referrals to a range of other services including mental health services, particularly for refugees suffering post-traumatic stress.
