Credit checks
Reference checks

If somebody came and knocked on the door to your home, would you give them the keys to your car?
Not surprisingly, you probably wouldn't.
More surprising is that many landlords hand over the keys to $300,000+ investment properties on just that scenario.
Why would you?
You need to protect yourself, your investment and your fellow landlords by fully identifying who is in your property.
Every applicant should fill out a comprehensive LAS Tenancy Application Form (application forms available through LAS ) giving full identification, current address, references, date of birth, drivers license number etc.
LAS members can order tenant checks and credit checks on a user pays basis - each check costs $18.00.

Warning Private Landlords
Don't get caught

Private landlords are seen as a 'soft target' by unscrupulous professional bad tenants.
They know all the tricks to bluff their way past an unwary landlord.
They also know that most Real Estate Agents and Property Managers have access to National Databases and Credit Reference Checking facilities, limiting their chances of being accepted as a tenant if they have a record.
What they DON'T KNOW is that as a LAS member you can access the National Tenancy Database.

Use the comprehensive LAS Tenancy Application Form and make sure you check all references.

For more information about the National Tenancy Database Check Service call the Landlords' Advisory Service on 9316 8533 between office hours 9.30am and 4pm.

The National Tenancy Database now operates in every State and Territory of Australia and is officially endorsed by the Real Estate Institutes of Victoria, Tasmania, the ACT and the Estate Agents Co-operative in New South Wales.

Rent Check has grown from an idea supported by a few members of the REIV to a body that actively assists property managers in every corner of Australia.

Pioneered by Remington White Australia Pty Ltd in 1987, the database has been providing quality risk assessment information to the property industry for twelve years.

The tenancy checking facilities provided by National Tenancy Database are presently used by thousands of Agents Australia wide and accepted by industry as a standard medium for checking prospective tenants. National Tenancy Database was the first and is presently the largest tenancy information provided in Australia.
